A Weekend in Nagatoro: Hot Springs, Gourmet Bites & Quality Time with Mom 💕
This past weekend, I went on a little overnight getaway with my mom to Nagatoro in Saitama—and let me tell you, it was pure joy from start to finish. Our destination? Seine no Yu (星音の湯), a hot spring resort where we could soak, eat, and totally unwind. It was everything we needed and more!
One of the highlights was this super cute treat called Chichibu Mayu. It’s a marshmallow shaped like a silkworm cocoon, and when you bite into it, maple syrup oozes out… I was NOT expecting that combo, but it was love at first bite.
At first, I thought, “Okay, just a marshmallow,” but nope! Total game-changer.
Turns out, it’s made by Chichibu Nakamuraya, a long-established confectioner in Chichibu that’s been making maple syrup sweets from local Japanese maple sap for years. Knowing that made each bite feel even more special.
At a souvenir shop near the station, I also picked up some Chichibu pudding. When I asked for their most popular flavor, the staff instantly recommended the maple syrup one. I was surprised to learn that Chichibu actually produces its own maple syrup—such a cool local twist!
For lunch, we ate at Seine no Yu (星音の湯)’s in-house restaurant. We went all out with grilled meat set meals and their signature Waraji Katsu-don. “Waraji” refers to traditional Japanese sandals, and yep—the pork cutlet is HUGE. Maybe not quite the size of my foot, but still, it’s definitely a meal made to share!
Then came the Miso Potatoes… oh my gosh. Fluffy potatoes in a crispy coating, smothered in sweet-salty miso sauce. SO addictive. I’m definitely trying to recreate this one at home.
But the surprise star? The Shakushina Pickle Pizza. The crunchy texture, bold saltiness, and slight fermented tang hit all the right notes. If you’re into fermented foods, this one’s a must.I thought it reminded me of Vegemite toast—a childhood favorite thanks to my parents’ love for Australia and New Zealand.
My mom said, “It tastes like miso and it’s so good!” — but interestingly, the menu didn’t mention any miso at all.
It actually described it as “an original pizza topped with pickled Shakushina and cheese over walnut paste,” which made us go, “Wait, really? No miso?”
It might be one of those flavors that aren’t for everyone, but if it’s your thing, it totally hits the spot!
One thing I really appreciated about Seine no Yu (星音の湯) was the seating—actual chairs at the restaurant, not floor seating. No tired legs = happy diner! It’s such a thoughtful touch, especially for international guests.
I noticed a few foreign visitors nearby, and they looked really comfortable and relaxed—this kind of setup definitely makes a difference!
Another big plus? They hand you a wristband at check-in that handles all your payments inside. Meals, spa treatments, everything—just tap and settle up at the end. Super convenient!
Oh, and did I mention there’s a footbath and a full-on esthetic spa inside too?
Between the delicious food, relaxing hot springs, and thoughtful little touches, Seine no Yu (星音の湯) gave us the perfect mother-daughter escape.

長瀞で母とリラックス♡星音の湯で味わった癒しと美味しさ満点の1泊2日旅
週末、母と一緒に埼玉・長瀞へ、ぷちっと一泊のご褒美旅に出かけてきました♡
今回の目的地は、温泉もグルメも欲張りに楽しめる「星音の湯（せいねのゆ）」。想像以上に癒されて、美味しくて、リラックスできて…とにかく大満足の週末になったよ！
最初に心をつかまれたのが、「ちちぶまゆ」っていう見た目がめちゃくちゃキュートなお菓子。繭を模したマシュマロの中から、トロ〜ンと出てくるのは…まさかのメープルシロップ！
「え？ただのマシュマロじゃないの！？」ってびっくりしちゃった（笑）
このお菓子を作ってるのは秩父の老舗「秩父 中村屋」さんで、実は地元のカエデ樹液を使ったスイーツ作りに早くから取り組んでいたお店なんだって。そんなストーリーを知ったら、ひと口ごとに気持ちがこもっちゃうよね♡
駅前のお土産屋さんで買った「秩父プリン」も、メープル味をおすすめされて即ゲット。秩父でメープルシロップが採れるなんて知らなくて、ちょっとした驚き！こういうご当地ならではの発見って、旅の醍醐味だよね♪
ランチは「星音の湯」館内の食事処でガッツリと。焼肉定食もよかったけど、名物の「わらじかつ丼」は絶対食べてほしい！“わらじ”って昔の履物のことなんだけど、そのくらい大きなカツってことで…とにかくインパクト大。私の足よりは小さいけど（笑）、シェアしたくなるくらいのボリュームだったよ♡
そして…味噌ポテトが衝撃の美味しさ！ホクホクのじゃがいもに、サクッとした衣、そこに甘じょっぱい味噌ダレがたっぷり絡んでて…まさにやみつき系。これは家で再現確定♡
意外な“ダークホース”だったのが「しゃくし菜のピザ（空楽ピザ）」。シャキシャキの食感にしっかりめの塩味、そこにちょっと発酵っぽい独特の風味があって、私は「ベジマイトトーストっぽい！」って思って懐かしさMAX！
小さい頃、オーストラリアやニュージーランド好きな両親に食べさせられてたから、個人的にはツボな味だったの♡
母は「味噌っぽくて美味しい！」って大絶賛。でも、実はメニューには“味噌”って書いてなかったんだよね。不思議〜！
一応説明には「くるみペーストの上にしゃくし菜漬けとチーズをのせたオリジナルピザ」ってあって、「えっ、味噌じゃないの！？」ってちょっとびっくり。
好みが分かれる味かもしれないけど、ハマる人にはとことん刺さるやつ♡
そしてもう一つ感動したのが、「星音の湯」のレストランが椅子席なこと。旅館のご飯って座敷が多いけど、ここは椅子だから足が疲れにくくてめちゃ快適！
「これは外国人にも優しいな〜」って思ってたら、近くにいた外国人のお客さんもすごくリラックスした雰囲気で過ごしていて、こういう配慮ってやっぱり大事だな〜ってしみじみ感じたよ♡
さらに、入館時にもらえるリストバンドで、館内の飲食もエステも全部まとめてお会計できるのが本当に便利！キャッシュレスでスマートに楽しめるって、今どき嬉しすぎるポイント♡
足湯もエステもあって、癒しもグルメも全部欲張れる「星音の湯（せいねのゆ）」。
